Reaping the Harvest

About Us

Our Story

Reaping the Harvest is a non-profit organization that began in 1984 as a Catholic response to serve the needs of farmworkers in Ulster County, NY. Reaping the Harvest is an entirely volunteer run organization. Our current projects include:

Brother Dan Crimmins Memorial Scholarship

Starting in 2016, this annual scholarship is given to farmworkers and children of farmworkers in Ulster County who are pursuing a post-secondary education. Scholarships are awarded during a community potluck dinner. Download the scholarship application here.

Posadas: Annual Christmas Celebration

Beatriz-y-Alonzon-scaled

Our Posadas, held nightly leading up to Christmas Eve, started on the farms in trailers, dormitories and packing houses and evolved to include other immigrant families in the community. They are a time for gathering families to practice their customs and their faith and to enjoy fellowship together.

Accompaniment

Our goal is to be a supportive presence for farmworkers in Ulster County.  We often navigate individuals and families through complex systems to access services.  We offer personalized attention through English/Spanish translation/interpretation, English tutoring, home visits, legal referrals and attending the variety of needs which present themselves.

Emergency Assistance

Referrals are recommended, with transportation provided, for appropriate social services (nonprofit and governmental). Financial aid is offered on a case-by-case basis, delivered discretely and confidentially, for health-related needs, immigration issues and crisis situations.
